sheila - here in the "gateway to the south" the humidity is high and we receive about 80 inches of rain annually. The mold I found in our basement was around two air conditioning vents. Basically, we have to pay for a company to come out, cut out the mold, and determine to what extent it exists in the dry wall and wood. They'll chemically treat it and then we have to put the walls back together again. In addition, we purchase a de-humidifier to help remove the moisture from the air. If you just let it go, it will get worse and become a bigger issue that gets in the way of selling the house down the road. There you have it - your mold 101 tutorial.

Mold abatement? Do I want to know what that entails?
Yes. I want to know. What is that? And why, oh why, is it so expensive?
v-grrrl - you made me smile.

Ew, that sounds awful. Can you be in your house while they do all this chemical stuff? At least you can be glad that you found it early, right?
